In a significant achievement, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has been accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
The Council announced this milestone on X, emphasizing that this recognition highlights PM&DC’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of medical education in Pakistan. The accreditation, valid for 10 years, now enables Pakistani students to apply for ECFMG and USMLE exams.
This recognition allows medical graduates from Pakistan to pursue advanced training and professional practice in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where WFME accreditation is a prerequisite.
PM&DC President Prof Dr Rizwan Taj expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to receive WFME recognition, which reflects our ongoing efforts to enhance medical education standards in Pakistan. This achievement opens up new opportunities for collaboration and ensures that our medical graduates are well-prepared to meet global healthcare standards.”
He noted that WFME recognition confirms that the quality of medical education in Pakistan meets international standards, providing Pakistani students with the opportunity to advance their careers worldwide.
Dr Rizwan thanked all the teams involved in achieving this milestone, including the Minister of Health, NHS&C Secretary Health, Surgeon General, PM&DC Council members, and Mr. Farzand Ali, International Consultant on Collaboration and Recognition. He also praised the dedication of Medical Colleges and hospitals like Shifa College of Medicine, Khyber Medical College Peshawar, University of Lahore, Agha Khan Medical University Karachi, and Army Medical College Rawalpindi, for their support and contribution through workshops and inspections during the WFME evaluation.
Lastly, Dr Rizwan extended his congratulations to the entire PM&DC staff for their tireless efforts in obtaining this accreditation.
