Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana announced on Wednesday that while the caretaker government has approved the reforms, their implementation will be carried out by the newly elected government.
Tiwana made these remarks during an informal discussion with Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, regarding FBR reforms.
He further explained that the FBR will finalize the groundwork for these reforms and submit them to the incoming government for implementation.
The federal cabinet had approved the restructuring and digitization of the FBR at the end of last month. In a televised address following the cabinet meeting, Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar had stated that the restructuring roadmap, approved by all stakeholders, will be implemented by the elected government.
Earlier this month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended a notification issued by the caretaker government on February 4 regarding the formation of an implementation committee for the restructuring of the FBR.
