Government of Pakistan Increases Passport Fees by 50%

The Government of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in the fees for Machine Readable Passports (MRPs), effective March 7, 2024.

The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGI&P) has stated that any passport applications submitted on or after March 7, 2024, will be subject to the revised fee. Additionally, for applications where the fee was deposited before March 7, 2024, at the old rates, but the passport application is made on or after March 7, 2024, the difference in fees will need to be paid at the enhanced rate before the application can be processed.

This increase comes on the heels of a temporary halt in the issuance of new passports. An official from the Passport Office cited a ‘link-down’ problem affecting data entry processes, originating from the Passport and Immigration headquarters, as the reason behind the suspension.
