Punjab Introduces 50% Discount Travel Card for People with Disabilities on Public Transport

In a groundbreaking initiative, the provincial government of Punjab is extending financial support to individuals with disabilities, easing their travel expenses.

Enhancing accessibility, the initiative introduces a 50% discount travel card for disabled individuals, aligning with the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act. Eligibility is open to all disabled individuals holding a government-issued disability certificate.

To obtain the card, applicants can visit the Deputy Director of Social Welfare’s office in their respective areas.

Last year, the provincial administration took a commendable step by offering free public transportation to elderly residents and students, aimed at improving facilities for those in need. Although briefly paused before winter vacations, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently directed authorities to reinstate the free travel option on major public transportation projects.

Students up to class XII will continue to benefit from free transportation on Metro buses and the Orange Line Train until the summer holiday.
